So here’s a newsflash – hostgator are a terrible company. There was a time when they were good, when I would have happily endorsed them. That time is not now.
A few months ago they announced to me that they would be changing the way my hosting package with them worked. This wouldn’t be so bad if they moved me to an equivalent sized service, but instead they downgraded me and said that to ‘upgrade’ to what I had would be $140 dollars a month extra.
They also appear to have fired a massive amount of their staff as it took 7 hours for them to email be back and I had to wait 25 minutes to IM tech support (used to be 30 minutes for a reply and a 3 minute wait to IM).
Many of you may remember similar issues with the main site a couple of months ago.
So here’s what’s happening right now :
– Hostgator is choking the amount of people who can access the members section at any one time.
– I am angry
– I am upgrading to their $140 a month plan for 1 month, then cancelling my account. I shall integrate everything with my dreamhost account as soon as I can, which currently hosts the main free site.
– The upgrade could take 24 to 72 hours.
NOTE : if you keep refreshing the members area, you should get through eventually! Keep trying and you may have some luck.
UPDATE : If I upgrade through hostgator, I also have to install all my own server software. What the hell?!!
I am also talking with epoch right now about the possibility of transferring the members area to the main one, rather than having it on vdg-offsite.com
My deepest apologies for any issues members are having, but know that I am just as frustrated and angry as you are right now.
So should we or should we not try to login?
“Veeral” I think you can try to login but it might or might not work since “hostgator” limited the amount of people being able to be logged in at the same time.
So you might or might not get in, is how I understood it.
But we should just be patient and hope it get fixed as soon as possible, I know annoying since I wanna try the new game also! 😛

I don’t think refreshing works, really.
I’ve tried refreshing every 20 minutes or so but to no avail and haven’t been able to reach the members area since this time yesterday.
Since we’re all eager to play the new game, would it be possible to upload the game to a sharing website and then email VIP members the address?
Just a suggestion, assuming the site will be down for an unexpectedly long time.
Is the Maddison in the Members Only section the Maddison with the Final Cut expansion, or just the base game? Wondering if i should join cause i want to play the Final Cut and the new game that just released 🙂

Has anybody been able to login I’m still having issue’s logging into the system
as stated above it is going to take anywhere from 24-72 hours for the upgrade to go through, at first i found that unlikely but seeing this all happened on a weekend it sounds about right. refreshing is a dead end seeing as the files and address is in limbo during the upgrade so i would say just wait try again Monday evening or night

Hold on just a little while longer.
The website has been completely moved to dreamhost. All that’s left is for epoch to add their software to the server and configure whatever they need to to give all members access.
any chance you can start emailing out the jenifer game to those with proof they purchase memberships ^_- lol
Well, good news is that now I can enter members section. Bad news is that links to download Jennifer and Maddison are broken and don’t work. At least Jennifer can be played online but Maddison can’t be played online either [link is broken].
Now it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I paid but it won’t let me gain access; the login screen just keeps reappearing. What gives?!
If you’re having trouble logging in, you have to contact epoch via epoch.com. They can help you with it.
