June 28th Update

With all the work earlier in the year regarding Molly and Marianna, it seems that there was a small anniversary I overlooked.

So, without further delay, Happy Birthday Crystal!

Yes, I believe it was March 2009 that I first introduced Crystal, my first girl and my first game to the world. That makes 10 years that I’ve been doing this.

I’ve a choice between 2 options for my next game – Crystal Part 3, or A Betsy sequel. I’d really like it to be Crystal.

I’d also really like it to be a more classical Virtual date game structure. There’s a big house, you can explore the city, choose lots of locations etc. I don’t think I’ve really made a game like that since Maddison.

In order to do that though, I still need to decide on a new look for Crystal. I’m still working on an updated Genesis 3 version, with the current version looking like this:

The most notable recent change is that I’ve used photoshop to merge the old and new textures into one. She still needs work, but I’m slowly getting closer to being happy with it.

This is currently draft 11. I think the final version on Leanna was 24.

In the meantime, happy anniversary Crystal and I can’t wait to work with you again.

  1. I’m one that suggested a Betsy sequel before, but if you’re more inspired to do Crystal 3, then that’s what you should do next. I would love to have some more Betsy & co, but I like the idea of a traditional date game. A new Crystal game has been a long time coming. I look forward to either option you decide on.

  2. 10 years already!? Congrats! And thank you for all these years bringing us games. I am really into the idea having Crystal as the next game in a more traditional game, I really miss the non-lineal stuff even if the story is simple.

  3. Well, Crystal was (and still is) special, to many of us, so a third game to close the trilogy seems fitting. However, going back to the classic format of doing something in a big house is going backwards IMHO. This is Crystal we’re talking about, and the 10th anniversary, I believe she deserves more of a “bang” than a so-so setting. A great story, and you can add various settings, as long that they lead to a big final scene (kinda like Betsy and Leanna)

    1. Well, just to clarify, it wouldn’t just be a straight duplicate of, say, Maddison.

      This would be the updated version. Lots of freedom to explore, but with some narratives and lots of character driven moments.

      1. My point exactly. You mentionned at one point the idea of “rekindling the flame” between the player and Crystal. It’s a good setting, with a plot, and many possible activities. However, this was done with Rachel in her third game, so maybe a new approach is needed.

        1. I think in Rachel it was, like, 4 lines of dialog at the start of the game, then one of 3 very brief scenes at the end.

          I think I can do a little better than that with this one.

  4. A crystal game seems like what you want. Though a run in with a Betsy character wouldn’t be out of the question. Keep doing what you do best.

  5. Now that I’ve got my Molly fix, I am quite supportive of a return to roots with a Crystal game. 🙂

  6. You certainly have came a long way. Congratulations! Now I can only imagine a remaster of the first and second game but with the option to play as female. What do you think?

  7. Much as I’d love to see Betsy again, going where the inspiration takes you is always the better choice in the long run. That said, I really don’t care for the chiseled cheekbones of the new Crystal model. Crystal has always had more of a “girl next door” look that I personally find much sexier.

    1. The chiseled cheekbones are actually part of the morph I created to transfer some of the original character.

      They’re totally there on old Crystal if you you look at the comparison above.

  8. why do you need a new look for Crystal ? i think she does look great the way she looks .

    1. From a character design perspective, she looks very plain to me these days. I made her when I barely new how to make characters. She really is just the default base model with a common texture applied.

      1. so do not use Crystal then , the new model (which i think looks awesome and extremely hot) can be a entirely different character but Crystal Daniels should not be altered without a good story behind .( i HATE ret-cons)

        1. one idea : the new model looks like a Egyptian or Israeli so she can be placed in a Molly & Marianna game where she is a foreign spy and our two heroines have to find her.

        2. Dude, this is happening. The only question is how the new version of Crystal will look.

          Also, I’m not sure this counts as a retcon. It’s the same character, she just has an undated look. Hell, 35% of new Crystal is still the old Crystal morph.

      1. I feel that you should retire Maddison as a main character. I know that I’m in the minority thinking this, but as long as there’s a potentian game involving her, people will not care about anything else. She’s way too powerful.

        Case and point, when you made a poll about some of your projects. A big chunk of comments and votes were to her, and I highly doubt that they paid any attention to the other games.
        I mean no offense to Maddison’s fans (I am one of them), but sometimes I feel that she’s the only one that matters to you, and you’ll be fine having a mediocre game with her than a good one with somebody else.

  9. I like what you did for Crystal, she must hold a special place in your heart well done. I am curious about Molly and Marianna’s update and walkthrough, As well as the status of dsp3000 and his upcoming work. Thank You for your kind attention.
